Next week I will be delivering two lectures on Ephesians 1:8-10. Here is the conclusion:   Paul’s words in Ephesians 1:8-10 come in an immediate context of praise to the Father (Eph. 1:3ff.). The Father is to be praised due to comprehensive redemption in the Son (Eph. 1:7-12). The Son’s redemptive work affects everything (Eph. 1:10). According to wider canonical teaching, the Son functions as the last Adam (1 Cor.  [ Read More ]

Bishop Jackson, Israel, the Exodus, and Hermeneutics

Here is a brief clip of a man I do not know. Though I do appreciate the Bishop’s boldness, I noticed a couple of things that I find interesting. 1) He noted that the Democratic party is anti-Israel and said something to the effect that those who curse Israel will be cursed. I watched a clip the other day, funded by some Jewish council, that was very, very supportive of our  [ Read More ]

If so, old covenant Israel is called the LORD’s son and  [ Read More ]

Reformed Catechisms on the Lord’s Supper as a Means of Grace (II)

Part I is here. The Shorter Catechism and The Baptist Catechism   The Baptist Catechism (BC) is a revision of the Shorter Catechism (SC) with evidence of minor dependence upon the Larger Catechism as well. It was probably written by William Collins, the co-editor (with Nehemiah Coxe) of the 2ndLCF.[1] The revisions in the places we will note are slight and do not affect the theology. The BC replaces the  [ Read More ]
